It’ll cost you $14.90 at the airport station gate plus a regular fare which typically costs $4-5. If you’re only taking one or two trips and would rather not buy a pass, you can use a contactless credit or debit card for a slightly higher fee. By car or bus, the airport is a 20 to 25 minute journey from the city in light traffic and up to 50 minutes in peak hour. Taxis and rideshares will cost around $50 each way in normal traffic while private shuttles, limousines and hire cars are also available. 

    As mentioned above, an Opal card is your best bet for getting around town once you’re settled in. Sydney is a complicated mishmash of hilly roads, bridges and inlets from the harbour, but it boasts an expansive network of buses, trains, light rail services and ferries to help you get to your destination quickly and seamlessly. Given the city’s often confusing roads and its tendency to experience heavy traffic, public transport will often get you where you need to be just as quickly as a taxi or private car.
